Spend Spend Spend

Schwarzenegger delivered his annual State of the State address last night, and took the opportunity to unveil a massive public works plan to improve California's infrastructure. The proposal would cost an estimated $222 billion over 10 years and strive to fix our delapidated freeways and public buildings.

Paying lip service to Republicans, he said no tax increases would be necesary, but massive fee increases for toll roads and water await Californians if the project moves forward. The project would also be paid for with bonds, which if you weren't aware, are paid back using money from property taxes.

Let me say this, California desperately needs this kind of project, but lets just pay for it honestly. A temporary tax increase tied to the project is the responsible way to pay for it.

Other notes from the State of the State

This makes me want to buy a shack somewhere far away from everyone:

California's population is expected to increase by as much as 30 percent over the next 20 years. That is the equivalent of adding three new cities the size of Los Angeles.

And this would be odd only if you heard the speech:

Thank you very much Lieutenant Governor Bustamante.

He pronounced "Bustamante" perfectly, but he still can't say the name of the state.
